Website planning – Identify your audience

An important step in preparing your website is to think about your audience. For your website to work and for the content to be easy to understand and relevant, you need to identify who you are trying to talk to.

Identify the audience groups, what content they want presented and where and how they are likely to be accessing and reading it.

Then you can think about what you want your website to do for your audience and match the content style and presentation to the audiences’ needs.

  • Identify your audience (who will visit/ use the site?)
  • What do they want from the site?
  • Order them in priority (this predicts what is prominent on the site).
